No, it’s not a mistake: Google has removed this feature from one of our favorite apps

In search of promoting an improvement in the user experience of its apps, Google continues to make improvements in its ecosystem of apps: this time, it has been the turn of Files. We tell you all the details.

ANDl technological development The journey through the telephone industry in recent years has allowed us to turn our smartphone into the epicenter of a large number of our daily tasks. Faced with every time largest number of files and documents that we manage through it, the use of the document managers has become mandatory, with the aim of maintaining maximum order. And, to do this, Android users have one of the most intuitive applications that we can find on the market: Files.

With it, we can carry out all kinds of tasks that go far beyond document management itself. Like, for example, having greater control over the available storage on our device and deleting unwanted files in just a few taps or making automated backup copies in Google Drive or any other similar app. In recent days, this app has undergone a redesign that, however, directly affects our user experience: eliminating the bottom bar that was so useful for many.

The bottom bar disappears

In the bottom bar we had direct access to the Clean, Explore and Share Nearby functions. Three options that were very interesting for many users. Now, with this change, the Explore tab now has its own feed and the cleaning options are located at the top of the navigation drawer, next to the trash. Adding a few keystrokes until you can reach it.

However, the main change is found in what was previously the Share tab. From now on, we will have to search for each file individually and display the options menu offered by the “Share” button. If what we want is to receive files from any other contact, all management of our visibility must be done from the configuration menu of our smartphone, in the general settings.

Updating the system

The changes in the share menu are probably related to the Implementation of Quick Share feature on Pixel devices and, progressively, on non-Samsung mobile phones. Through this functionality, we will be able to share any type of content with other Android devices in a very intuitive and simple way. In just a few taps, we will be able to share any document or file, without having to resort to third-party apps. All in a much more integrated way into our system.

If we have not yet updated the Files application on our Android device, we probably will not be able to enjoy the new changes that Google has made. Stay tuned for the Play Store notifications to be aware of the latest updates that developers are carrying out in the applications that we use most in our daily lives.
