Robert Downey Jr. names his best film
The career of Robert Downey Jr. is one of those that stands out. At 58, the actor has had several lives, some of which are disreputable, before achieving global glory (and maybe even cosmic, who knows) thanks to the role of Iron Man. The charisma and involvement he brings to each of his characters, whoever they may be, have earned him the opportunity to contribute to major films: this is which, according to him, is the best in his filmography.

Robert Downey Jr., despite a descent into hell in the 90s, because he consumes drugs and alcohol, continues quality roles in the cinema. There is center first Chaplinin 1992, for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor. We subsequently find him on the poster of Born Killers (1994), Family Weekend (1995) with Jodie Foster, and Premonitions (1998). Then, at the beginning of the 2000s, in Gothika (2004), Zodiac (the thriller by David Fincher, 2007), and the crazy Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005), and Thunder in the Tropics (2008).
But it was around the 2010s that he truly became an actor who brings in money, thanks to Iron Man (2008) and the new adventures of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes produced by Guy Ritchie (2009/2011). Between two Marvel Studios films, Robert Downey Jr. is filming a few projects like the hilarious Deadline in 2010 or the moving one The Judge in 2014, but his career during this decade is essentially focused on Tony Stark, which leads to a certain form of weariness for the actor.
After the character’s death in Avengers Endgame in 2019, he filmed the comedy Dolittle’s Journey, released in 2020, And Oppenheimer, released in 2023. This drama, directed by Christopher Nolan, earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and it is also the best film in which Robert Downey Jr. participated, according to him!
I wouldn’t be here tonight if I hadn’t participated, with Cillian [Murphy]to the direction of the interpretation department, under the supervision of Chris Nolan – there would be no reason to have me here as a modern master, because what have I done for you lately? […] A visionary filmmaker can see things that others cannot see. [Oppenheimer était] very demanding, very rewarding – and I think that it’s probably the best film I’ve ever contributed to.
This statement from the actor, during a conversation with Leonard Maltin on the occasion of the presentation of the Maltin Modern Master Prize at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, is like the actor – humble and grateful. And you, do you think that Oppenheimer is Robert Downey Jr.’s best film?
