Madame Web: the first returns of the latest Marvel are here, and it’s not fun

Expected this Wednesday, February 14 in theaters, the first returns of Madame Web have fallen. And unsurprisingly, the promises of a great film fall through the cracks…

Madam web : the new ssu film

Directed by SJ Clarkson, Madame Web is the new film from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Taken by Dakota Johnson, the feature film focuses on Cassandra Web, a heroine capable of seeing the near future. The latter will face Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim) who seeks to seize the powers of the different weavers of the Sony universe. While the story takes place in the past, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott will embody the parents of Peter Parker. But as of now, there is still no sign of Spider-Man in the SSU.

Madame Web

After Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage And Morbius, Madame Web is therefore the fourth SSU film, even if it seems to be disconnected from its predecessors. The feature film is expected this Wednesday February 14, 2024 in French cinemas.

Disappointing first returns

Last night took place the world premiere of Madame Web in the USA. A few lucky ones (or not) were able to discover the latest Marvel movie. They were quick to share their reactions on social media. And unsurprisingly, Madame Web seems to be a disappointing film:

While I was disappointed, see the movie for yourself and form your own opinion to you some of the good may outweigh the bad

Things I like:
-Dakota Johnson’s humor
-the early 2000’s aesthetic (spider girls sing/dance to Britney Spears ‘Toxic’ & it slayed)
-Adam Scott pic.twitter.com/gEapKW57uu

#MadameWeb is an embarrassing mess. Talented stars wasted on probably the worst comic book movie I have ever seen. Filled with atrocious dialogue, awkward editing, & all around laughable structure. I sat there baffled scene by scene someone approved this. The memes will redeem it pic.twitter.com/wwxBZmzf1f

I sat there baffled, scene after scene, that anyone approved of this. The same people will reevaluate it.

#MadameWeb is totally fine. There’s really not a lot to say here. The leads are charming. Dakota Johnson is a witchy weirdo. The slasher/FINAL DESTINATION meets superheroes vibes are there. But there’s just not a whole lot to it. Not a disaster. Just kinda there. pic.twitter.com/HVf1jsUBnO

Madame Web is absolutely correct. There really isn’t much more to say. Dakota Johnson is a weird witch. The slasher/Final Destination atmosphere mixed with the superhero film is there. But there just isn’t much to say. Not a disaster. Just there.

#MadameWeb is a clunky, poorly-written, messy, and sloppy movie packed with some mediocre editing and performances.

Even though it had solid cinematography and an interesting concept, it couldn’t be saved due to its terrible execution.

There are some huge missteps with #MadameWeb from a story/comic perspective. As someone who has every variant cover of THE OTHER and SPIDER-VERSE, Ezekiel over Morlun is a huge L and continues the issue I have with much of Sony’s Spider-Man adjacent films. But compared to Morbius pic.twitter.com/JyMN0bNEHM

#MadameWeb exceeds expectations! Some of the dialog is cheesy AF, some heavy-handed product placement, and probably couldve been tidied up a bit more. But the cast really work magic with what they had, their chemistry is a lot of fun, and the suits look great pic.twitter.com/UZoD5irjQx

I was not, unfortunately, successfully entertained. #MadameWeb is a series of misses and wasted opportunities and not just for obvious reasons… https://t.co/EHXNdtYrbe

#MadameWeb is yet another disappointing entry in the Sony Universe. Dakota Johnson is a stand-out, but unfortunately that’s not the case for the rest of the cast. Not as bad as I expected it to be, but it sadly falls short of what could have been a decent movie. 2/5 pic.twitter.com/WdnIXtalBQ

Unfortunately for me, #MadameWeb lacked the spark it needed in nearly every department: writing, acting, action sequences. There are a few good moments with an excellent overall pacing, but gees was this hard to get through. https://t.co/NeLehZlBC2

I watched #MadameWeb and it was bad. I tried to give it a chance but sadly the poor execution didn’t help it. The cast was awesome but the performances were definitely disappointing… pic.twitter.com/jCRahgVZlQ
