The shonen in question here is Kagurabachi. Directed by Takeru Hokazono, the manga debuted in the famous Weekly Shōnen Jump from Shūeisha in September last year. It was a title that quickly gained popularity among fans, even managing to surpass other shonen already well established at the time of its release, and which was further highlighted by becoming a meme on the networks. A manga that fans can also find every week on the Manga Plus site, the online reading platform belonging to Shūeisha. And if Kagurabachi has recently been talked about again, it’s because he left his mark on the history of Shounen Jump in a way that was at least unexpected. Indeed, as reported by the account Shonen Jump News on X (formerly Twitter), Hokazono’s manga was entitled to what we call an animated manga in the English language, which is a first in the magazine’s history.
For those who are not familiar with the term “manga animation” (or “comic,” being the contraction of “voice” and “comic”), it is a process intended to animate specific boards of the original manga, to create promotional videos in the run-up to upcoming releases.
