After Godzilla Minus One, this huge Chinese fantasy film is a hit
A few weeks after the triumph of Godzilla: Minus One by Takashi Yamazaki, a new (very) spectacular Asian film has just hit French cinemas, sweeping away everything in its path.
Chinese Fantasy in the Spotlight
While American cinema seems to be running out of steam at the global box office – as evidenced by the gigantic losses of the Hollywood majors in 2023 – French cinemas are increasingly offering a new distribution model: films with major Asian spectacles whose strength and inventive staging sweep away 90% of blockbusters from Hollywood released in French cinemas on very short notice ranging from two days to two weeks.
So, after I of SS Rajamouli and Jawan by Atlee (two crazy Indian blockbusters) and Godzilla: Minus One, the French public can finally discover this weekend on the occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the film Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms by Wu Ershan first part of a fantasy trilogy adapting one of the classics of Chinese literature: The Investiture of the Gods.
We spoke to you a few months ago about this “Lord of the Rings Chinese“, as many of our colleagues have nicknamed it, and its first epic trailer. Available in around a hundred theaters in France this weekend of February 10 and 11, 2024, the film tells the fight of a warrior and a Shinto monk against a tyrannical prince and his mistress possessed by the spirit of the Demon Fox, 1000 years BCE.
I was at this exact session. Suffice to say that #CreationOfTheGods delivers the expected spectacle: it’s thrilling from start to finish
Excessive action, iconographic images, twists and turns, betrayals, a touch of eroticism… Crazy https://t.co/xT4pL7lDvT
A little confusing Chinese blockbuster with too many characters and subplots but which delivers on spectacle level, with a demon-fox, stone dragons and sharp swords. It’s a bit lacking in talent behind the camera but the money is on screen. #creationofthegods pic.twitter.com/hNhy8dGrfr
#CreationoftheGods I – Kingdom of Storms: A very convincing first part, which easily manages to present, without heaviness, this universe and its characters, while not forgetting some welcome epic sequences, even if the special effects remain subject to improvement. pic.twitter.com/tTgHM6avpn
#CreationOfTheGods #封神三部曲 is an incredibly epic wuxia with endearing and charismatic characters, furious and visceral combat, intense emotion and haunting music. It is a gem of hypnotizing beauty! The Lord of the Rings from China❤️🔥 pic.twitter.com/y7dQAClG7C
#CreationoftheGods A nice blockbuster although it could be improved. A little too condensed, fights a little disappointing and some special effects that are frankly not great. Despite everything, we remain captivated by the energy that emanates from it.
For two days only, Chinese New Year requires, the film that makes you look like @Game Of Thrones to an intimate rom com: #CreationOfTheGodsthe Heroic Fantasy made in China in super production mode on February 10 & 11 in 144 cinemas in France. https://t.co/O41O10ueP7
CREATION OF THE GODS, a Chinese blockbuster which reinterprets the novel “The Investiture of the Gods”, will only be in cinemas in France this weekend, exceptionally for the Lunar New Year!
Already 374 million dollars in revenue for this insane film which traces the war… pic.twitter.com/caguL4pRqF
UPDATE: I saw “Creation of the Gods I” earlier, it’s definitely worth going to the theater this weekend to see it! It’s a great Chinese blockbuster, you can go for it with your eyes closed 👌 https://t.co/QFWXgz5QxF
I saw “Creation of the Gods I”, I’m impatiently waiting for the sequel to find out if the good geniuses with superpowers will put the guy cut in two back together
(go ahead, it’s good)
Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms
Not bad ! There are some slightly questionable visual effects and passages where the spectators are a bit taken for idiots because it’s mainstream but otherwise it’s funny, it’s acceptable and there are real moments of tension, can’t wait for the following ! pic.twitter.com/HPCQLv68MN
You would have understood it, Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms is THE film to discover this weekend. You saw him ? Don’t hesitate to tell us what you thought of it in the comments.
