Miruko’s design in the anime is controversial
Since April 2016, shonen lovers can follow the manga adaptation My Hero Academia by Kōhei Horikoshi in anime. Six seasons have already been broadcast, with a seventh season scheduled for May 5. A new batch of episodes recently teased on the web, with information that is sometimes divisive. This is the case with the design of Miruko’s character which is controversial.
Miruko’s design for season 7 of my hero academia does not convince
With season 5 of the anime, viewers of the adaptation of My Hero Academia were able to discover the character of Mirko. Real name Rumi Usagiyama, the Rabbit Heroine Miruko is still in fifth place in the Hero rankings, preceded by Edgeshot, Best Jeanist, Hawks and, of course, Endeavor in first place. Introduced in season 5, Miruko had to wait until season 6 to truly shine.
It is in the season broadcast between October 1, 2022 and March 25, 2023 that Miruko will share the full extent of her talents. The Rabbit Heroine will take advantage of the Paranormal Liberation War Arc, and especially her confrontation with the High-End Nomus of Kyudai Garaki to reveal both her abilities and her combativeness.
At the end of her clashes, Miruko was seriously injured. The Heroine Rabbit lost an arm and a leg, forcing her to stay behind as Japan ultimately descended into chaos. However, season 7 should allow Miruko to take center stage. A character whose new design was revealed through a promotional poster for season 7 of My Hero Academia but which divided the fans. As a certain throwback warrior shares on X, the choice of colors is not to everyone’s taste.
Mirko has bright, colorful prosthetics in the manga. It’s hard to understand why they chose shades of gray for the anime. An attempt to approach “realistic colors” would make sense for Aizawa, but not for her. pic.twitter.com/yv2b4TtcRM
“Mirko has very colorful prosthetics in the manga”. “It’s hard to understand why they chose shades of gray for the anime. An attempt to get closer to ‘realistic colors’ would make sense for Aizawa, but not for her.”
Note: the number 347 in the tweet above is the number of the chapter where Mirko loses and replaces her two first prosthetics. I’m aware of all of that. The tweet is about wrong colors. pic.twitter.com/1eLiEv8gzn
For those who don’t understand how colors work in manga, the whiter the value in manga, the lighter the color in color pages. The claw pattern was dark with white lines. The argument that these are different models (347) does not apply here because the colors are always wrong.
Note: the number 347 in the tweet above is the chapter number where Mirko loses and replaces his first two prosthetics. I am aware of all this. The tweet talks about wrong colors.
With a tweet liked more than a thousand times, the Internet user in question sheds light on a decision that many consider problematic. “The way the anime portrays her colors is evil because Hori always and only colored her with dark skin..” shares a user. “Not only that, but her outfit, mainly the main part, is also not up to par“continues another. A design that does not convince, while season 7 of My Hero Academia is due to begin broadcasting in just a few weeks.
With the introduction of her prosthetics, Miruko’s design has changed from her debut in Season 5. However, readers of the manga probably did not expect such a choice of colors. Decisions which risk throwing a slight chill over the beginnings of the season, while it adapts a narrative arc which is nevertheless very popular. Let’s hope the rest of season 7 lives up to the hype. Response in a few weeks.
